Eligibility Conditions
Nationality & Personal Status
- Must be an unmarried male citizen of Pakistan
- Age not more than 20 years as on 31 December 2026
- Candidates from FATA, Gilgit Baltistan, AJK, and Balochistan: age limit up to 21 years (one year relaxation)
Academic Qualification
- Must have passed FSc Pre-Engineering or A-Level with subjects: Maths, Physics & Chemistry — with at least 55% marks
- O/A Level candidates must submit a separate Equivalency Certificate for both O and A Level along with the application
- FSc/A Level Part-II appearing candidates with at least 60% in Part-I can also apply — with a Hope Certificate from the head of their college/institute
- If a candidate fails to attain 55% in FSc after providing a Hope Certificate, they will be disqualified at any stage of selection and discharged during training
- A Level candidates who fail to submit the Equivalency Certificate on time will not proceed in the selection process
Selection Procedure – 4 Stages
PMA follows a rigorous 4-stage selection process. A candidate must qualify all 4 stages to be considered for provisional admission:
- 📝 Stage 1 – NTS / Entrance Test: Minimum 50% marks required to qualify
- 🏥 Stage 2 – Medical Fitness: Conducted at designated Army/Navy hospitals for NTS-qualified candidates
- 🏃 Stage 3 – Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Conducted after medical examination
- 🗣️ Stage 4 – Interview: Only PET-qualified candidates are invited
Failure at any stage results in immediate disqualification and no further consideration for admission. Provisional selection is based on merit — including FSc/A Level percentage, entrance test marks, medical fitness, PET standards, and interview performance.

The NTS Entrance Test will be conducted at the following cities across Pakistan:

- Muzaffarabad (AJK), Peshawar, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Sukkur
Education & Training at PMA
- 2-year residential training conducted at Pakistan Marine Academy, Karachi
- Upon completion, award of Associate Degree in Nautical Science and Marine Engineering by NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi
- Certificates of International Maritime Organization (IMO) recognized Pre-Sea Mandatory Courses
MMD Eye Vision & Colour Perception Tests
- After joining PMA, all candidates must appear before the MMD (Mercantile Marine Department) for eye vision and colour perception tests
- Admission will only be confirmed upon passing the MMD Eye Vision and Colour Perception Tests
- MMD failures will be returned home and their provisional admission will stand cancelled
- Candidates declared Colour Blind are ineligible
Who Is NOT Eligible – Ineligibility Criteria
- Candidates who submit tampered academic certificates or documents
- Those who conceal information or provide false details in the application
- Candidates withdrawn from any academy/training institution on disciplinary or academic grounds
- Persons dismissed/removed/debarred/resigned from government service including Armed Forces
- Anyone convicted by a court for moral turpitude or any other offence
- Non-combination of subjects holders and DAE diploma holders are not eligible
- Medically unfit candidates as declared by Armed Forces hospital/Appeal Medical Board
- Candidates declared Colour Blind
